Meet the Harper Capital team

NATHAN SCHUSS +

Nathan Schuss is Chief Executive Officer of Harper Capital Partners, LLC. He leads Harper's production team, works directly with developers and owners on HUD-insured acquisitions, refinances, and new construction, and sets the direction of the firm's operations.

Before founding Harper, Nathan spent nearly a decade as a Vice President at one of the largest multifamily lenders in the country, originating HUD, agency, and bridge loans. His focus throughout has been using HUD programs to give clients long-term, fixed-rate, non-recourse debt, so an owner can finance a property once and not worry about refinancing risk in a volatile rate market. Nathan has originated approximately $2.5 billion in financing over his career. Nathan began his career at a Florida waste consulting firm, reducing operating costs for property owners.

Nathan graduated from the Sy Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University with a BS in General Business. He lives in Englewood, New Jersey, where he serves on the board of a community nonprofit. In his free time he enjoys tennis and time with his wife and four children.

JASON LANGER +

Jason Langer is a Director at Harper Capital Partners, LLC, where he works with developers and existing owners to evaluate their portfolios and structure debt solutions, including HUD-insured refinance, acquisition, and new construction financing.

Jason began his career in corporate finance at American Express, on the Corporate Planning team, analyzing and reporting financial results across the company's businesses. He was later promoted to the Global Commercial Services division, evaluating investment returns and sales efficiency for the domestic sales organization.

Jason graduated from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park, with a degree in finance.

DOVID KATZ +

Dovid Katz is a Vice President at Harper Capital Partners, LLC, specializing in FHA/HUD permanent financing for developers, owners, investors, and operators throughout the United States. Beyond HUD debt, he advises clients on land, value-add opportunities, and alternative new construction financing, and on placing equity, preferred equity, mezzanine, and bridge capital.

Dovid began his career in AdTech sales, where he built out the sales footprint for IDG and SpotX/Magnite and later served as a board advisor and consultant to companies in the industry.

Dovid graduated from the Sy Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University with a BS in Business and Management. He lives in Teaneck, New Jersey, with his wife, Daniella, and their five children. He volunteers with several community organizations and enjoys skiing and team sports.

BEN SCHLESINGER +

Ben Schlesinger is a Vice President at Harper Capital Partners, LLC, where he focuses on HUD-insured financing for multifamily properties, including refinancing and acquisitions under Section 223(f) and new construction and substantial rehabilitation under Section 221(d)(4).

Ben came to Harper from the construction industry, where he was responsible for growing the footprint of a commercial waterproofing subcontractor throughout the northeast. Working with developers, contractors, architects, and engineers gave him a practical understanding of how buildings are built and maintained, which he brings to his clients' capital planning.

Ben graduated with highest honors from Queens College, CUNY, with a BA in Psychology and Business.

ANDREW LANGER +

Andrew Langer is a Vice President at Harper Capital Partners, LLC, working with multifamily property owners to obtain HUD-insured financing.

Andrew started his career at Lincoln International, a middle-market investment bank, in its capital advisory group, which specializes in special situations and debt advisory. He worked across origination, transaction structuring, and execution on distressed M&A, recapitalizations, refinancings, and restructurings.

Andrew graduated from the William E. Macaulay Honors College at Baruch College, CUNY, with a degree in finance.

STEVEN JUSKOWICZ +

Steven Juskowicz is Chief Operating Officer of Harper Capital Partners, LLC, where he manages operations and corporate functions and works across the firm's HUD-insured underwriting and deal structuring.

Steven began his career in commercial real estate finance as a senior underwriter at one of the largest HUD lenders in the country, focused exclusively on HUD's multifamily programs. He has worked on more than 250 projects with loan amounts totaling more than $5 billion, including acquisitions, refinances, new construction, substantial rehabilitation, and supplemental loans. He completed the Mortgage Bankers Association's FHA Multifamily Underwriter Training Program and now serves as an instructor in the program.

Steven received a JD from New York University School of Law and a BA from Brooklyn College, CUNY.

ROBERT SHEDDY +

Robert "Bob" Sheddy is Chief Underwriter of Harper Capital Partners, LLC, where he oversees underwriting and loan application processing for all of the firm's FHA-insured multifamily and healthcare loans. Bob is approved by HUD to underwrite all FHA multifamily and healthcare loan programs.

Bob has worked with HUD lending programs since 1988 and specialized in multifamily and healthcare finance for more than 30 years. Before Harper he was Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriter of Multifamily & Healthcare Finance, LLC, and before that Executive Vice President and Chief Underwriter of Oppenheimer Multifamily Housing & Healthcare Finance, Inc. There he managed a large team of underwriters and processors and was the senior technical authority on programmatic, underwriting, and mortgage credit questions under the MAP Guide and Lean 232 processing. He also served as a Vice President and Senior Deal Manager at KeyCorp Real Estate Capital Markets. In 1990 he co-founded Heartland Capital Corporation, a multifamily and healthcare mortgage lender.

Earlier in his career, Bob originated and underwrote 70+ tax-exempt bond issues totaling $300+ million for projects in over 20 states, and he has served as Vice President and a Board Member of the Eastern Lenders Association.

Bob received an MBA from the University of Utah and a BSBA in Accounting from the University of Arkansas, and earned his CPA certificate in 1977. Before entering finance, he served as an instructor pilot in the United States Air Force.

WENDY FARMER +

Wendy Farmer is Deputy Chief Underwriter at Harper Capital Partners, LLC, and leads the firm's new construction, substantial rehabilitation, and supplemental loan underwriting across market-rate and affordable HUD transactions.

Wendy has underwritten more than $1 billion in HUD-insured loans. She has been a HUD MAP-approved underwriter since 2012, with experience across Sections 221(d)(4), 220, 223(f), and 223(a)(7), including affordable transactions layered with 4% and 9% LIHTC, HOME funds, and local subsidy. Before joining a MAP lender in 2008, she worked in compliance, oversight, and management of affordable multifamily housing and then with multifamily developers specializing in FHA-financed affordable housing, where she prepared LIHTC applications and assembled due diligence for 223(f) and 221(d)(4) portfolio refinancings.

Wendy graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Business Administration and an emphasis in Real Estate, and is a licensed real estate broker.

ADAM LIVI +

Adam Livi is an Underwriter at Harper Capital Partners, LLC, and the firm's primary refinance and acquisition underwriter. He analyzes financial statements, reviews and evaluates third-party reports, and prepares HUD loan applications. He also builds and refines Harper's internal financial models, templates, and checklists, and spearheads the firm's AI implementation efforts to further streamline and accelerate the underwriting process.

Adam joined Harper in 2019 and completed the Mortgage Bankers Association's FHA Multifamily Underwriter Training Program.

Adam graduated as salutatorian from the Sy Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University with a degree in finance.

DEAN WANTLAND +

Dean Wantland is Senior Vice President of Harper Capital Partners, LLC, responsible for all HUD and Ginnie Mae regulatory compliance, loan closings, and loan servicing operations.

Dean has more than 30 years of experience with agency multifamily and healthcare lending, covering origination, underwriting, closing, secondary marketing, construction loan administration, and permanent loan servicing. Before Harper he was Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Cosmopolitan Capital Funding; Senior Vice President, FHA Chief Underwriter, and Compliance Officer at Stifel Bank & Trust; and FHA Chief Compliance Officer at Berkadia Commercial Mortgage and Capmark Finance (formerly GMAC Commercial Mortgage), where he earlier managed the FHA closing department.

Dean received a BS in Business Administration from Creighton University and completed coursework toward a JD at Saint Louis University School of Law. He is active in industry groups, has spoken at HUD and FHA industry conferences, and maintains an ongoing dialogue with HUD and Ginnie Mae officials.

EMILY ARTHUR +

Emily Arthur is Vice President of Loan Servicing & Asset Management at Harper Capital Partners, LLC, responsible for FHA loan servicing, post-closing transaction underwriting, and risk management.

Emily has more than 15 years of commercial real estate finance experience. Most recently she was Associate Director of FHA/USDA Asset Management at Lument (formerly Red Mortgage Capital), where she managed a portfolio of HUD multifamily, healthcare, and USDA loans. There she built a dedicated team to service HUD skilled nursing, assisted living, and hospital loans, and another to underwrite HUD loan assumptions (TPAs) and operator changes. Before that she spent seven years at C-III Asset Management, a CMBS special servicer.

Emily received a BA in Philosophy from Texas Tech University and an MBA from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She is an MBA Certified Property Inspector and a member of the Healthcare Mortgage Advisory Council, the Mortgage Bankers Association, and CRE Finance Council.

VERA RUSYN MASSEY +

Vera Rusyn Massey is Vice President of Loan Servicing & Asset Management at Harper Capital Partners, LLC, responsible for accounting, investor reporting, vendor management, and loan administration.

Vera has more than 20 years of experience in commercial loan administration and operations across Ginnie Mae, USDA, bridge, and mezzanine portfolios. She spent 18 years at First Housing Development Corporation, rising to Vice President and Manager of Commercial Loan Administration and Operational Accounting, where she handled HUD and Ginnie Mae portfolio reporting and directed the company's SOC 2 Type II audit for 11 consecutive years. She later served as Director of Bridge and Mezzanine Portfolio Servicing at one large HUD-insured lender, and as AVP of Commercial System and Platform Administration at another.

Vera received a BS from the University of South Florida and holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
